Office fit out specialist Overbury has been awarded the Environmental and Social Impact Award at this year’s Mixology North Awards. The awards were held recently to celebrate the very best in the corporate interiors industry in the North and the Environmental and Social Impact Award recognises and rewards the company that has made the most positive environmental and social impact throughout the year.
Judged by an independent panel of architects, specifiers and consultants across the British fit out industry, Overbury was assessed on its commitment to sustainable procurement and being carbon neutral; its environmental policies and its research into ways of reducing its environmental footprint – such as feasibility studies on plasterboard recycling.
Other initiatives that made Overbury stand out were its ISO14001 environmental best practice accreditation, extensive auditing and environmental management systems which track and reduce waste, and its in-house, client and subcontractor environmental workshops. These aim to raise environmental awareness and help clients and partners to understand, manage and reduce their environmental impact.
“Overbury is honoured to have won this significant award from Mixology North,” says Paul Brown, managing director of Overbury’s Northern office. “We work closely with our supply chain and clients to reduce the amount of waste produced during a fit out as well as to increase the energy efficiency of sites we work on. This award recognises the part that everyone has played in meeting our environmental commitments and will help to spread the message that companies need to ensure environmental policies are in place now in order to help secure a safer and sustainable future.”
Paul adds: “The award is a just recognition to all those who have worked on sustainable projects this year, including the completely carbon-neutral fit out for ‘green’ design and architectural practice Sheppard Robson in Manchester which is believed to be one of the most comprehensively sustainable schemes of its kind in the North West.”
In addition to winning the Environmental and Social Impact Award, Overbury was also a finalist in the Company of the Year Award, which recognises those companies that demonstrate stellar growth or a major impact on the corporate interiors market during the year.
