Project description

The scenic grounds of the research park provides the perfect backdrop for a workspace that invests in employees and helps them get the most out of their working day. Our brief focused on redefining the way Sepura works, reflecting the company’s core values and creating a balanced environment that serves the needs of employees and delights clients.

Growing up, moving out

Sepura’s winning combination of customer service and cutting-edge technology catapulted the market leader to outgrow its office in Chesterton, Cambridge. So, after five months on site we were delighted to hand over all-new facilities for 300 employees.

We designed and built a welcoming reception space, open plan office accommodation, a meeting and training suite, dining and restaurant facilities and a handful of informal collaboration spaces, as well as production and testing laboratories, a comms room and distribution warehouse. We selected high quality finishes, focused on creating flexible spaces and incorporated bespoke design touches to reflect the brand’s unique culture.

Testing 1, 2, 3

Sepura designs, manufactures and supplies digital radio products, systems and applications. These business and mission critical communications have been developed specifically with users in mind, including those in public safety, transport, construction and manufacturing. Naturally, its in-house high tech production laboratories, testing rooms and product presentation area were a key part of our brief.

The centrepiece is the purpose-built communications showroom for product demonstrations, whether it be for sales or training. We also installed a specialist anechoic chamber designed to completely absorb noise and electromagnetic waves for advanced sound experiments. This echo-free room has unusual wedges lining each wall and a double-walled soundproof door.

Variety and wellbeing

Sepura has embraced a completely new way of working, making the most of an activity-based approach for the first time. Employees have the autonomy to choose where they want to work and there is more than enough space to accommodate a whole host of tasks. With dedicated zones for heads-down work, phone calls, collaboration and unwinding, this new office meets the needs of busy employees who want variety.

We also know how important it is for employee wellbeing to have access to fresh, nourishing food so we purpose-built a catering facility with an outside seating area. Sepura’s onsite restaurant, known as the Hub, is exactly as the name suggests: a central gathering space, drawing people together from around the business. Catching up in a relaxed setting is a sure way to build a sense of community. Throw in a yummy meal with lakeside views and you’re all set for a destination workplace experience.

All in a day's work

We’ve given Sepura more than just an office. Having the specialist facilities they need under the same roof as a contemporary, activity-based workspace is a dream come true.
