The SKA technical committee works on behalf of the RICS and industry to develop new SKA tools and ensure that existing schemes are up-to-date with changes in legislation, regulation, technology and good practice.

As a leader in sustainable fit out Overbury has achieved a series of firsts on environmentally assessed projects, including the first ever SKA Gold rated project. Now, the specialist contractor has been given a seat on the SKA technical committee alongside sector leaders such as FIS, AECOM and Grigoriou Interiors.

“We look forward to continuing our alliance with our peers on the SKA technical committee,” says Overbury’s head of environmental and sustainability Dr Joe Croft, “and I’m delighted to represent Overbury and our wider team of experts."

Other recent SKA initiatives by Overbury include participation in the development of a new SKA assessment tool for higher education projects, providing a benchmark for the interior fit out and refurbishment of learning spaces. Overbury also regularly hosts seminars and workshops on the topic and has a number of experienced SKA assessors within the company.

Joe continues: “There is a great opportunity for contractors to lead environmental and sustainability initiatives onsite. Our involvement in shaping SKA rating is an important part of continually striving for excellence in sustainability, as well as meeting the evolving needs of our clients. It is an invaluable tool that provides simple and clear direction, whether for guidance or formal certification.”

Elina Grigoriou, design and sustainability director at Grigoriou Interiors commented: “Joe has been a long-time supporter of SKA rating, and has contributed along the way on technical issues and identifying improvements. During the development of the SKA higher education scheme it became apparent that his experience, strategic thinking, drive for improvement and resourceful nature are strengths that the technical committee can benefit widely from. We are delighted Joe is joining the team and rolling up his sleeves!”
