Business leaders can discover how to adapt their offices to accommodate an increasingly diverse and multi-generational workforce at a Birmingham seminar. Inclusive Design For A Multi-Generational Workforce will take place on Thursday October 19, from 8.30am at Opus Restaurant in Cornwall Street.
The event will feature a panel of industry experts challenging the stereotypes of millennials, digital natives and older office workers. Additionally, the panel – including CEO of Innovation Birmingham, David Hardman and senior project designer at Overbury, Joe Huddleston – will discuss the challenges faced by companies looking to adapt their office environments to cater for all.
Joe Huddleston comments: “Contrary to popular belief the average age of the British office worker is getting older. Many workplaces are now faced with the reality that they have to create a space that accommodates an increasingly diverse workforce.
“The ideal office is a place where people are happy, comfortable and productive, where their needs are met and where they can make positive connections with colleagues – no matter their age. If it succeeds in doing this, the office will not alienate and stereotype groups; it will encourage people to share and learn from each other’s strengths instead. But creating this type of workspace is easier said than done, especially with all the talk of millennials dominating headlines.
“Our workforce is getting older, and this can’t be ignored. I encourage employers to attend our seminar to find out how to design inclusive environments that address the needs of highly-skilled and experienced older workers, while still providing comfortable environments for other users and attracting the next generation.”
The seminar will include an interactive session, allowing speakers to pose questions to the audience who can vote anonymously in real time using an electronic voting tool. The panelists will debate the answers, sharing their insight and experience.
