An office fit out that puts the environment first for emh

East Midlands Housing (emh Group) has been providing high quality affordable homes for families since 1946. It was only natural they wanted that same quality for their own home in Coalville.

An eco-conscious office fit out

A vision for the future

Emh Group were looking for an office that facilitated better communication and group engagement, whilst minimising their environmental impact and improving sustainability. We worked collaboratively with Associated Architects, John Lester Partnerships, structural engineer GCA and M&E designer Couch Perry and Wilkes, to deliver an eco-conscious 20,000 sq. ft. refurbishment of premium office space that will continue to serve the people of emh Group for years to come.

A greener approach

When it came to installing the fixtures and fittings, we took great care to ensure that as many of the materials as possible met the sustainability standards emh Group set for the project. Following the architect’s design, we installed sustainably produced carpets, environmentally friendly ceiling and wall finishes and recycled content furniture throughout.

Further environmental considerations were made by exclusively appointing local subcontractors based within a 35-mile radius of the site. This meant that the project’s overall carbon footprint was reduced and the communication between all partners involved was enhanced.

Bringing the outside in

The client wanted to create a comfortable environment by implementing a nature-inspired office design scheme to really ‘bring the outside in’ and reinforce their eco-conscious ethos.

The space features a refreshing green and natural fabric colour palette with timber finishes, as well as an abundance of indoor plants and a biophilic wall in the reception area. The result is an uplifting atmosphere which breathes new life into the space.

A home for everyone

Throughout the new office, we followed the architect’s design to create a variety of spaces that accommodate the different working and social patterns of emh Group staff.

With a selection of open plan workspaces for collaborative work and smaller meeting rooms and seating booths for more focussed work, all accompanied by relaxing break out and refreshment areas, there really is somewhere for everyone to feel at home.

A winning strategy

Emh Group wanted the works to be completed as quickly as possible without compromising on quality, whilst also keeping costs down. We devised a 14-week programme with specific attention given to value engineering, allowing us to offer ideas on how we could achieve significant savings.

We were able to successfully meet the tight deadline thanks to our careful planning and constant communication with the client and all partners, which also helped us to navigate delays and supply shortages caused by Brexit and the pandemic.

We are proud to have helped create such a beautiful, eco-conscious home for emh Group, who are delighted with the high quality of the fit out which will support their colleagues’ needs for years to come.
