Project description

Arup's new workspace, covering 36,000 sq ft across two floors linked by a newly installed statement staircase, was designed with the circular economy in mind and includes repurposing more than 840 furniture items, with a focus on reporting carbon savings to exemplify Arup’s commitment to sustainability.

Our team worked closely with Arup to create a space that captures Arup’s culture, fosters collaboration, improves wellbeing and inclusivity and adds social value. We also partnered with Arup’s inclusivity/accessibility team to deliver a design that meets all employees’ needs, including accommodating neurodiversity.

Stylish sustainability

Reused furniture items retained in their current form included desks, task seating, meeting room furniture and personal storage - helping to save approximately 91 tonnes C0₂e towards the carbon impact of the project.

In addition, repurposed products saw us reupholster and re-powder items such as sofas, lounge chairs, semiprivate focus booths, existing stools and media units.

Among the hero products used on the Arup Manchester project were bistro tables and chairs - manufactured using innovative materials to create unique, sustainable, environmentally friendly and above all high quality products.
