  • Sustainable materials and biophilic design
  • 'Change Champion' strategy for smooth staff transition

Social housing and care support provider GreenSquareAccord (GSA) consolidated multiple regional offices into one new workspace at Brindleyplace in Birmingham. We were appointed to design and deliver the Cat B fit out and ensure a smooth and efficient transition to the new space.

'Be the difference'

At the heart of the design was GSA’s ‘You can be the difference’ value and the goal of creating a welcoming and homely workplace for all. The new office was designed to balance collaboration and individual focus, offering a mix of adaptable working areas so employees could choose an environment that best suited their needs.

Key spaces include a friendly and inviting entrance, The Square Café social hub - filled with natural light - and the Secret Gardens, a quiet retreat designed to provide neurodiverse employees with a comfortable space.

Let there be light

Natural light was a priority throughout the design to enhance warmth and wellbeing. The Square Café’s floor to ceiling windows became a focal point, with workstations strategically placed to benefit from the natural light. Additional warm atmospheric lighting was introduced in inner areas, reinforcing a homely feel that reflects GSA’s housing expertise.

Sustainable choices

In line with GSA’s commitment to the Sustainability Reporting Standard for Social Housing, the fit out incorporated a range of sustainable materials. Recycled fabrics made from bottles and fishing nets, along with reclaimed bricks, were carefully chosen to reflect GSA’s brand identity and dedication to sustainability. Biophilic design elements were also integrated, bringing nature into the workplace to promote wellbeing.

Smooth transition

With multiple teams coming together into one office, the move to Brindleyplace marked a significant shift in working practices. To support this transition, GSA introduced a ‘Change Champion’ strategy, appointing ambassadors from within the organisation to help colleagues adapt. These ambassadors played a crucial role in gathering feedback and ensuring a smooth adjustment to the new environment.

A workspace built for the future

GreenSquareAccord’s new office reflects their commitment to creating a workplace that prioritises people, sustainability and collaboration. By blending thoughtful design with meaningful work settings, the new space provides a dynamic and inspiring environment where everyone can thrive.
