A workspace design and fit out that transformed Lookers’ approach to working

In the aftermath of the pandemic and driven by its people-first policy, Lookers decided to re-purpose, redesign and refurbish their HQ in Timperley.

The hub now provides for agile and flexible working to inspire new levels of collaboration, innovation and productivity. Workshops with stakeholders and workplace champions established what Lookers wanted and the outcome reflects their culture as an ambitious, forward-thinking business, driven by technology.

Flexible working post pandemic

As a company which shows real commitment to its colleagues, Lookers wanted to implement a well researched return-to-work strategy. Emerging themes were: the need for a variety of team and individual spaces to plan projects, bookable meeting rooms to share ideas in and easy access to spontaneous ‘touch down’ areas.

Flexible, stylish spaces for all working styles

Agile workplace design to fire on all cylinders

Given Lookers’ adoption of hybrid working, there was a strong need to ensure that when their teams spent time together, they had the space to truly shine.

This resulted in a range of meeting and seating areas to serve all styles of task-based working. We delivered a suite of meeting rooms on the ground and third floor and open plan office spaces throughout Lookers House.

Creativity is a common thread which runs through the company, and it was an important element to explore and inspire through bright, collaborative, touch down spaces for modern working. Quiet spaces for concentrated tasks were also a requirement, so we included focus pods providing privacy and calm.

More formal meeting areas still have their place in any office. The space was planned so that Lookers’ people could enjoy the space reinforced by state-of-the-art technology, comfort and wellbeing through biophilia and natural light, and a corresponding sense of style through furniture choices, palettes and fabrics.

The benefits gained from Lookers’ people being able to again spend time together go further than the day-to-day work and project planning. Spontaneous collaboration and interaction now happen throughout the HQ - and nowhere is more pivotal than ‘The Pit Stop’ café.

A tired kitchen area has been redesigned and fitted out to provide an informal, inclusive and impressive area for Lookers’ teams to socialise and take a break from their desks - refuelling their bodies and refreshing their minds.

A repurposed office delivering winning results

Beyond the feature ceilings and bespoke joinery, an open and inviting reception area displays a shiny new MINI electric. The sustainability focus continues in the car park with twelve car charging points for both employees and visitors.

Technology was a driving force throughout the project with super-fast WiFi enabled connectivity and a technology ‘bar’ to further support employees’ needs.

We delivered new heating, lighting and ventilation systems throughout the three storeys and supplied and installed new furniture and internal signage to befit Lookers’ strong brand.

There’s no doubt that the design and delivery of this agile and flexible Lookers HQ will enable them to continue as a leading motor retailer and top employer in the UK and Ireland for many years to come.
