Project description

When your client asks for an office which isn’t an office, you know their workplace ambitions are nothing short of innovative. International audit, tax and advisory firm Mazars moved into a new high-profile development in Birmingham’s city centre and wanted a premium destination workplace to match. Contemporary design, high quality finishes, on-trend furniture and flexible working: this dream project on Chamberlain Square is one to remember.

Accidentally on purpose

You step directly into the innovation suite when you enter this office; a space which is dedicated to accidental meetups and serendipitous collaboration. The curved Corian-topped bar with blush pink and brass stools is a standout feature, replacing a traditional reception desk. This gathering spot with a difference is completed with a welcoming glow from pendant chandeliers, an integrated clutter-free storage system and an all-important coffee machine.

This coffee bar is flanked by the central breakout space which is the heartbeat of the office, The Pit Stop. This provides a glimpse of the informal, people-focused aspect of the brief. This is an office that provides balance for the realities of everyday life, work and play. The coffee’s always hot and the spectacular views of Paradise Circus are inspirational, offering a relaxed café-style working environment.

Organic shapes, geometric angles, wallpaper and a soft colour palette complement the bold navy of the Mazar’s logo. This design intentionally draws you through the space using patterned focal points to extend the arrival experience beyond the reception.

One space, multiple uses

The best way to maximise your footprint is to make flexibility a priority of your fit out. Every area is designed for the activity or task at hand, whether it be collaboration, project work or a space to hide away and focus.

We gave Mazars traditional office desks, but also the flexibility to embrace agile behaviours. The best example of this is the boardroom and breakout space where a bi-fold wall, which neatly stacks away, supports four different reconfigurations of the floorplate.

Here, you can host an intimate client workshop just as easily as a 50-person town hall meeting. Different furniture types, integrated technology, smart screens and top-notch acoustic finishes all come together to make this space successful for various uses.

Other agile working areas include a campus-style study zone with round tables and desk lamps, quiet spaces, meeting rooms of varying sizes, upholstered booths, a wellbeing lounge with comfy sofas and a multifaith room.

Smart workplace of the future

A social mix of informal and structured work is what defines the office of the future. It’s one which supports agile working with integrated technology and provides opportunities for organic collaboration, just like the destination we created for Mazars.
