James Kington Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council

Project description

Overbury’s northern team worked with Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council and their professional consultant team to deliver the strip out and the Cat A & B refurbishment of Stopford House, Stockport.

Hybrid transformation

To support the council's desire to move to a hybrid working model, Overbury delivered an open plan office that features break out areas and collaborative spaces across the five floors. Stopford House has been transformed from a “liability to an asset” and is now a statement office space in the heart of Stockport.

Winners all round

Sustainability and affordability were two key drivers on the project. Through major mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) highlights such as new ventilation and heating systems, as well as reclaimed elements such as furniture and flooring, the result is lower running costs and 16 tonnes of carbon saved. The project allows the council to increase revenue through the letting of existing offices as a result of their consolidation programme. In addition, the authority believes the rationalisation of its estate will result in higher productivity, improved staff performance, and enhanced partner working.

We engaged in a number of social value initiatives which supported the client’s charitable efforts. 32 items of furniture were donated to the Stockport Race Quality Partnership.
