National T Level Week: Reflecting on students’ journey with Overbury

In celebration of T Level Week, we’ve been speaking with T Level students about their experience working with us and reflecting on the impact of these placements for both the students and our teams.

This year marked the first time Overbury hosted T Level students at this scale, with students completing their 45 day industry placements across several of our projects. The programme has proven to be a valuable learning experience that helps bridge the gap between education and industry.

Working in partnership with colleges including London Design and Engineering UTC, New City College and City of Westminster College, the students joined project and preconstruction teams to gain first hand experience of the fit out process, from design reviews and planning meetings to site visits and client interactions.

These placements are an important part of our commitment to supporting early careers. We’ve seen first hand the positive impact of giving young people meaningful experience within our teams, not only helping students develop their skills and confidence, but also bringing fresh perspectives and enthusiasm to our business.

This is what the students had to say about their time with us.

Olivia – London Design and Engineering UTC

“I’ve realised how crucial the preconstruction phase is. I loved the exposure to design and the chance to speak with the sustainability and social value team.”

Aadam – London Design and Engineering UTC

“I’ve loved my experience, it’s been fun, enticing and intriguing. The most memorable part was definitely the site visits.”

Rylie – New City College

“Every day brought new challenges. I was never alone and always supported. It was a hands on experience that really helped me grow.”

Logan – New City College

“What sets Overbury apart is the friendliness of the staff and how willing they are to help young learners like us succeed."

Joe – City of Westminster College

“My placement has deepened my understanding of construction and supported my coursework. It’s confirmed my passion for the industry.”

By investing in the future of construction talent, we’re helping to shape a stronger, more inclusive industry for years to come.
