Home Case studies Burges Salmon
We refurbished Burges Salmon's Bristol headquarters at One Glass Wharf to deliver a more open and flexible workplace that’s bringing people back to the office.
"Your team have been absolutely excellent. I have noticed how loyal your subcontractors are, which is really important. Even when there were issues, you were responsive, rapid and went above and beyond."
Independent UK law firm Burges Salmon wanted to move away from a cellular office layout and create a more open, vibrant and energising workplace to give employees more reasons to use their One Glass Wharf office. The fit out was delivered one floor at a time over two years, allowing business to continue as normal with minimal disruption.
Employees moved into swing space while their floors were refurbished. Noisy works took place at set times so Burges Salmon could continue to hold business events and host clients as normal. We managed the shared goods lift and loading bay, holding weekly planning meetings and scheduling around landlord works taking place at the same time. As each floor completed, we took the lessons learned forward to make the delivery of the next one even smoother.
The reimagined workplace uses an earthy, warm colour palette with circular lighting, pendant lights, acoustic ceiling rafts, bespoke joinery, oak wall panelling and new carpets to create a premium feel. Meeting rooms and quiet spaces include acoustic panels to aid focused work and wellbeing. We also upgraded house lighting to LEDs, installed new audio visual systems and refreshed the kitchen areas.
Old glazing, carpet and furniture from all phases of the fit out were donated to Collecteco and passed on to local charities for reuse. These efforts contributed to Burges Salmon being named Sustainable Business of the Year at the 2025 Bristol Legal Awards.
The finished refurbishment has provided Burges Salmon with an open and engaging workplace that’s better suited to its employees’ needs. Delivered with minimal disruption to business operations, it has already led to an increase in people choosing to work from the office.
