Project overview

Following successful completion of the enabling package, we began work on the new lab fit out on Level 10 of Guys Tower.

This project would bring new collaborative (pre-clinical) laboratory and office space, including the formation of a new plant room which would feed the new M&E services.

New toilets, lift lobbies and breakout areas were also included as part of the project.

The new offices and laboratories are glass-fronted with new suspended ceilings and vinyl flooring throughout.

Working in-occupation

Working in an occupied hospital could pose unique construction challenges. Coupled with the location adjacent to the Shard, we had to manage a strict logistics plan to minimise disruption to patients whilst navigating the busy London Bridge location. Deliveries and waste management were carefully controlled within tight access windows.

A sustainable future

The project achieved practical completion within the original timeframes, which was crucial for KCL to achieve additional funding to secure the future of the project. Thanks to the sustainable design choices, the project is currently being assessed for a SKA Gold rating.
