Project description

We were tasked with the refurbishment of Chicago Booth’s new campus in Barts Square, consisting of 43,000 sq ft of teaching and support space across the ground, first, and second floors. The space also includes newly refurbished executive MBA classrooms, offices, an open-plan kitchen, and casual seating areas.

We set out to replicate the facilities of the School’s other international campuses in its new London home. Working with the lead architect, astudio, we designed and refurbished the School’s new site with the vision of matching the impeccable standard of its other branches.

Modernising tradition

The building’s existing interior was modernised to reflect the forward-thinking values of the School’s academic community. A new staggered staircase enables light to circulate freely around the three floors. Throughout the building, a materials palette of industrial dark grey steel with natural oiled walnut creates a modern interpretation of the School’s impressive history.

Illuminating alumni

Running alongside the staircase, a feature wall pays homage to Chicago Booth’s distinguished alumni, heralding its status as a world-leading business school. The wall consists of over 100 illuminated magnetised photographic tiles which can be moved independently.

This innovative design sets the tone for the entire academic space, reminding the School’s current and future students of the brilliant figures that came before them.

Attention to detail

We executed the project with an intensely diligent approach in order to deliver the high standard of work expected by the client. Through constant communication with all project members, we were able to adapt the refurbishment to meet the exacting needs of the University. The project was successfully delivered within a precise timeframe and budget.

Cultivating greatness

Throughout the project, we strove to reflect the long and prestigious history of Chicago Booth whilst also drawing on modern design and architectural techniques to create an effective and empowering educational environment.

Chicago Booth’s new home in Barts Square will serve as its primary European branch, fostering the bright and inspiring futures of its students for years to come.
