Following a period of rapid growth, leading microchip designer, Arm, needed a new Manchester office that could support its diverse, 500-strong workforce. No.1 St Michael’s offered a modern location with rich heritage and aligned with the company’s focus on sustainability and wellbeing. The fit out needed to create a sense of belonging, offer flexible work settings and deliver high quality finishes while meeting strict environmental standards.

A collaborative approach to meet sustainability and diversity goals

We worked closely with Arm, JLL and the design team to deliver a 70,000 sq ft fit out over three floors. Key installations included a central staircase linking all floors, a large multipurpose social space, bespoke meeting and collaboration rooms, open plan office areas and a welcoming reception.

Inclusion and wellbeing shaped the design. Desks were provided for every team member to support a sense of ownership, lighting was tailored for those with sensitivities and the colour palette used natural, calming tones. This attention to detail ensures the space supports everyone, encouraging collaboration and productivity in a welcoming environment.

We implemented a full carbon engineering solution, reviewing all materials, furniture and finishes to ensure the most environmentally friendly options were used, supporting the building’s NABERS rating. Every decision was made to align with Arm’s ambitions for a sustainable workplace.

A workplace that inspires and empowers

The final result is a high quality, sustainable and inclusive office that reflects Arm’s culture and values. The space delivers flexibility, comfort and a strong sense of belonging, providing a workplace where people can do their best work while championing environmental responsibility.
