Home Case studies PepsiCo
PepsiCo UK’s relocation to One Station Hill brings together strong design, sustainability and functionality. It's a space where its people can work the way they want to at a landmark development in the heart of Reading’s regenerated town centre.
“Overbury have been so helpful. The professionalism they brought to the project, their experience, knowledge and hand holding throughout explaining everything was so supportive. As a client, I could not have asked for anything more.”
After more than a decade at Reading’s Green Park, PepsiCo, leading food and beverage company, relocated to One Station Hill in the town centre to take advantage of better transport links, modern facilities and improved sustainability credentials. We helped deliver a collaborative hub where PepsiCo’s people can be their authentic selves and work the way they want to.
Prior to the project starting, we set up workshops with HLW, the project’s architect, so that we could better understand the design, identify areas we could add value and ensure the final space had the 'home from home' feel that PepsiCo wanted. The design is inspired by PepsiCo’s iconic product portfolio, with touches like pendant lights modelled after Walkers crisps throughout the space.
Remaining in Reading reaffirmed PepsiCo’s commitment to the area. This is reflected in their new space – archway booths in the welcome area mirror the neighbouring train station, as does a mural in the main social space that was hand painted by local artist Kev Munday, who also co-created the illustration for the iconic illuminated Station Hill mural.
Creating varied settings for different types of work was an essential part of the project. Open areas support lively group work while booths and enclosed rooms provide private places for focus and concentration. Meeting rooms include acoustic treatment and simple digital booking systems, with a mix of room sizes to meet all potential needs. The staircase linking the two floors is now a central point that brings teams together, supported by a generous social ‘pantry’ featuring an exclusive drinks machine and interactive dartboard.
Working in an occupied building required careful coordination. We took a proactive approach, supplying a dedicated lift operator and holding weekly coordination meetings with building management and other contractors working in the building to manage deliveries and avoid peak periods. This maintained programme certainty and clear communication across all parties.
Stakeholders across the UK, US and Europe were kept informed and engaged through a dedicated project website featuring weekly progress photography, construction updates and interactive 3D Matterport scans, allowing PepsiCo’s people to walk through the progressing project.
The completed workspace provides PepsiCo UK with a sustainable home in Reading that’s fit for the future. It brings teams together across two connected floors, supports a range of working styles and reflects the brand’s identity within a high performing building designed for long term impact.
