Oliver Watson has been promoted to Managing Director of Overbury's London-based corporate partnerships and education team. At 34, Oliver is the youngest MD to be appointed in the company.

In his new role, Oliver will be responsible for a team of more than 110 people from surveyors and construction managers, to estimators and designers working on long-term frameworks. The team's clients include large corporates in the financial services, legal, and life sciences sectors, among others, together with further education institutions and landmark public sector buildings.

Having started his career labouring on Overbury's construction sites, after a spell as a champion kickboxer, Oliver has a strong understanding of every element in the construction process. Overbury quickly recognised his potential and supported him through a surveying degree at the University of Westminster, before offering him a surveyor's role in the London office. Oliver was later promoted to Contracts Manager where over 10 years he delivered more than 130 multi-million pound projects across the capital.

"As MD, my vision is to continue to take a long-term approach to client partnerships where we are seen as a trusted adviser working alongside organisations for many years," says Oliver. "There is too much of a transactional approach in this industry and we need to focus on our clients' needs and get under the skin of their businesses to best support them - not just this year and next year, but into the next decade." Having grown his career so successfully inside Overbury, Oliver also expressed concern about attracting new talent. "Our industry has suffered from chronic lack of diversity. We want to be in a position to attract the brightest talent from all walks of life. We need to show them that construction is a viable and exciting career."

As the youngest MD to be appointed to lead a team, Oliver's promotion is an exciting one of Overbury, demonstrating our policy of promoting from within and our succession planning for the business. It's rewarding to be able to support someone from the start of their career, through to this level.
